Bodrum amphitheater
One of the most important and preserved remains of the ancient city of Halicarnassus, the Bodrum Amphitheater boasts a dramatic location carved into the hillside above Bodrum. It was originally built in the 4th century BC. The reign of King Mausolus was not fully completed until the Roman era with structural changes made for hundreds of years until the second century AD.
The 13,000-seat amphitheater is one of the oldest buildings in Anatolia and thanks to careful restoration it is still in use and hosts concerts and theatrical performances during the summer months. Its great location and atmosphere are preferred by the wonderful sound and wonderful panoramic views of modern Bodrum and the surrounding Bodrum peninsula.

At the entrance to the site there is an information sign in English that shows a brief history of the portal. During the reign of King Mussolus it was part of a 4.3-mile (7 km) wall protecting the ancient city of Halicarnassus and many soldiers drowned here during a siege led by Alexander the Great.
